  3. Readme File for Installation, Usage, and Distribution

  5. What's new in version 1.40:
  6.    -A few bug fixes (rare instances of tray icon not appearing or
  7.     FreeRAM XP Pro interfering with shutdown/restart)
  8.    -Major new feature: RAM-Cuts, or RAM-freeing shortcuts. See
  9.     the Tools menu or press CTRL-U to access this feature.
  10.    -Minor enhancement: Ability to hide the Memory Mode part of
  11.     the program display

  13. 1. Installation for new users
  14.  
  15. Use Winzip or another zip utility to extract the executable file,
  16. FreeRAM XP Pro 1.40.exe, to a SPECIFIC and stable directory of
  17. your choosing. We recommend the DESKTOP, since you'll have easy
  18. access to the file in the future. DO NOT double-click on the file
  19. in Winzip (or the zip extractor you use) to extract, as that will
  20. cause Winzip to unzip to a temporary directory; the file will be
  21. deleted automatically by Windows or Winzip after closing; and
  22. consequently you will not be able to find it again later on.

  24. After successfully unzipping to a directory of your
  25. choosing, just run the executable file (FreeRAM XP Pro 1.40.exe).
  26. Whenever you use FreeRAM XP Pro in the future, it will run from
  27. the executable file, so be sure to keep it in a stable and
  28. easily-accessible location. Again, we recommend the Desktop.

  30. Note that by installing and using our software, you agree to
  31. the distribution guidelines in part 5 of this Readme and the
  32. Legal Notices in part 6 of this readme.

  34. 2. Upgrading from a previous version
  35.  
  36. To upgrade, DO NOT unzip this file to your Windows Temp folder
  37. (such as by clicking on the file in WinZip). Instead, specifically
  38. EXTRACT this file to the previous version's location and DELETE
  39. the old file, thus replacing the old file with the new one. Then
  40. run the new executable file. NOTE: You do NOT need to run the
  41. Uninstall option of the previous version prior to installing the
  42. new version. Doing so may cause your settings to revert to their
  43. defaults.

  45. Note that by installing and using our software, you agree to
  46. the distribution guidelines in part 5 of this Readme and the
  47. Legal Notices in part 6 of this readme.

  49. 3. Uninstalling
  50.  
  51. To UNINSTALL:
  52. In the program window (not from the system tray), click on the
  53. Information menu, which is third from the left under the title
  54. bar (beginning with the File and Settings menus). Then click on
  55. the Uninstall option. After the uninstall process ends, delete
  56. the executable file (program file). Note: You may have to restart
  57. before attempting to delete the program file.

  59. To manually install (not recommended; for advanced users only),
  60. first exit out of FreeRAM XP Pro, and then delete the program
  61. file. Note: You may have to restart to delete the program file.
  62. Next, open the Start Menu and click on Run. Type in regedit
  63. and hit Enter. Delete the key at
  64. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\YourWare Solutions. Then navigate to the
  65. key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  66. and delete the value named FreeRAM XP to complete the uninstall process.

  68. Please note: If you are having trouble finding the program file in
  69. whatever case, try searching your hard drive for "FreeRAM" without
  70. quotes.

  72. 4. Usage
  73.  
  74. There are two main ways to optimize RAM: by pressing Go, or by
  75. configuring FreeRAM XP Pro to operate automatically. You may, of
  76. course, use the two methods together. For more info, see the
  77. Usage Notes under the Information menu and visit the Settings
  78. program window.

  80. In addition, FreeRAM XP Pro can operate in two modes when freeing
  81. RAM: via AutoFree, in which FreeRAM XP Pro automatically balances
  82. speed and memory when optimizing, or you can manually specify
  83. exactly how much RAM you want to free up.

  85. FreeRAM XP Pro also features many more options, functions, and
  86. customizability. For more information, read the Usage Notes
  87. under the Information menu and explore the program Settings
  88. window.

  90. 5. Distribution

  92. We permit and encourage the free distribution and listing of
  93. FreeRAM XP Pro as long as the distributed package remains
  94. complete and unchanged as that officially distributed from
  95. YourWare Solutions (as available from our website); the software
  96. itself is available free and without cost to the end user; the
  97. user is given notice of our company website,
  98. http://www.yourwaresolutions.com; and the user understands that
  99. FreeRAM XP Pro is freeware.

  117. FreeRAM XP Pro in whole or in part for any reason whatsoever. You may not
  118. exclude, add, or modify any files of/to the FreeRAM XP Pro download package
  119. (zip file) or modify it in any other way from the form that it is available
  120. from our website, http://www.yourwaresolutions.com. You may not make
  121. FreeRAM XP Pro part of any other package, software or otherwise, for any
  122. reason without expressed written consent from the author(s) of FreeRAM XP
